It's "SWEATER" Weather

Sweater Weather

I said it! It’s SWEATER WEATHER. And I don’t care how exhausted you are from hearing so, it’s SWEATER WEATHER, SWEATER WEATHER, yes SWEATER WEATHER. LOL. My cousin beat me to the punch; she DM’d the SNL Skit before I got around to it. The immortal skit of Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler portraying Jodi and Betty, two gal pals in the Bronx hosting a talk show. Two gal pals exchanging enthusiasm for the seasonal change because it was finally, “SWEATA WEATHA”.

As a native East Coaster, living on the West Coast - I’ve come to appreciate the cold of 70 degree weather. Matter of fact, as a seasonal fashion lover, I couldn’t be more excited. Fall is upon us! I gathered my Cashmere, Wool, Alpaca, Cotton and Velvet “wardrobe” and prepared them for refurbishment. By that I mean dropped off four TJ Maxx bags "the ones near the register” full of clothes to the cleaners. Those bags were the gatekeepers “clothes, trunk of my car” of my favorite sweaters, styles.

Sweaters are of natural fibers, knits. Knit fabric is made up of single yarn with multiple loops creating a braided look. In F/W fabrication, sweaters create warmth and depict the season coziness. The variation of styles awards the “SWEATER” go-to fashion staple for colder weather. Not to mention, they won their own phrase, “SWEATA WEATHA”. Let's take a look at some of my favorite styles!

Sweater Weather

I’m a V-Neck, preferably relaxed fit kinda gal. With age, I’ve become bustier therefore relying on the flattering aesthetic of the style. The traditional V-Neck plunges low in the front in the shape of a “V” highlighting the bust area. Then there’s the Plunging V-Neck that dips significantly lower, nearing the chest accentuating the bust line.

Hands down, my number one fav V-Neck Sweater is from J.Crew. This sweater is 100% Cashmere and of a relaxed fit, gifting versatility! Wear alone, pair with a buttoned up or tee-shirt. Style how you like, either way the fit and fabrication ensures a luxe look.

A Cardigan can be considered the third wheel amongst outerwear; we have coats, jackets and then cardigans. This sweater style has an open front and traditionally worn as a lighter form of outerwear. As a layered piece, Cardigans adds extra warmth and dimension to an outfit. I fancy Cardigans with exaggerated shawl collars. I love adding the perfect scarf “accessory” to create an overflow of color, mix a pattern/print, or implement texture enhancement.

Turtleneck sweaters feature a high, close-fitting collar that covers the neck and usually folds with minimal to no effort. The styles exceptional warmth is a season favored during colder temperatures. In a stretchy blend that features wool and cashmere, the softness is exceptionale. The turtleneck transitional awesomeness is in the fit and fabric texture. The fabrication and weather temperature determines the outerwear. Without even knowing, this style delivers a super power look like NO other.

When I think of a Poncho, I only consider the drape. Cape sweaters are a variation of a Poncho. The sweater can be open or closed laying delicately over the arms. The most common aesthetic is the overhead adornment. The full drape of the front and back, favoring a V-Neck frontal, caressing the full arm is sexiness personified!

I, for one, love a Crew Neck! The Crew Neck sweater has a rounded neckline with no collar. This style is cemented in fashion history dating back to the 1930’s. Most often the light stitching style welcomes the layering effect. There’s no way I can wear a Crew Neck without the perfect button up being part of the look. The Crew Neck affords you creativity, do with it what you like! Relax, chances are you can't style the Crew Neck wrong.

The Tunic sweater is full body armor for me. I know, we use Cardigans as the third coat. However, living in California, I earned the right to wear the Tunic as my third coat.

Tunic is for the body, reaching long in length between the hips and knees. The versatility makes the Tunic a Fall/Winter seasonal favorite.

Why you can pair this style with a pant, skirt, shorts, knee boot, bootie and, or socks & loafers. When uncertain, grab a Tunic sweater and I’m sure you’ll figure the rest out!

I’ll say it again, again, again, - it’s SWEATER WEATHER! And, for one - I’m happy as a pig in SH&T. My V-Necks will be a solo act. Look for me to pair my Vince thin tee’s with Cardigans. You might catch me in a Turtleneck? There’s no doubt, my Banana Republic Poncho will be a go-to. Without a doubt, my Crew Necks will be accessorized to elegance. Well, for my Tunic’s, let’s end this by saying - Blazers will be jealous!

Be Well.

Yes, it is and I’m so excited 😆!!! I agree my least fav is the Turtle Neck. Its hard to make the work in CA. I’ve tried lightweight fabrics and still a no go!

It most definitely is SWEATER WEATHER!!! I too love a good sweater in the cooler temperatures. My go to is the good old third wheel, the cardigan. I have been wearing that for as long as I can remember. But I also love a good crew neck. My least would have to be the turtleneck. Living in TX I don't get to wear them all that often but when I get the chance it's a nice change for a little while.
